We get so used to the status quo. Living our day-to-day life just as it is, accepting the consequences of our choices.
And sometimes those choices are less than what our heart truly desires. It happens because we become out of touch with ourselves.
But that inner voice keeps trying to nudge us. It’s trying to tell us that although we’ve buried that desire that we once had, it’s still a viable dream. (If only we can find a way to believe in it again.)
After all, we’ve heard the comments from friends who’ve lost the belief too. As the saying goes “misery loves company” and in a twisted way, it makes others feel good to know that we’ve accepted our fate just as they have.
They’ve gone down the path of “least resistance”. Because sometimes when we follow our dreams, we come up with resistance in the form of fear or lack of belief in ourselves or the dream.
So it’s just easier to plod along, going down the same path as others. But I have to say, I’ve always been a fan of this quote from The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
Because it’s more interesting, and even exciting to blaze a new trail, isn’t it? To go where no man (or woman) has gone before, and to make our own path in life.
So, the question we have to ask ourselves is: “If this were my last day on earth, would I look back and be happy that I continued down this path, or should I have taken a chance and followed my heart?”
Here are some questions for you:
- Did you have fantasies as a child of doing something different than what you’re doing now?
- Is the situation you’re currently stuck in worthy of who you really are?
- Do you believe you’re capable of doing what you really want to do, or are you doubting yourself?
Life is short, and it’s good to stop and re-evaluate where we are from time to time, so that we can get back into alignment with who we’re meant to be. And that means EVERY area of our life.
Whether it’s our career, relationships, where we’re living, or something else. It’s like the tires on our car: They need to be realigned every now and then.
When we don’t get “realigned”, life gets wobbly. We feel that something’s not right. There’s a craving to get clear on our direction, and find the route that’s right for us.
So, find the road that’s right for you; whether there’s snow, leaves or other obstacles that seem to be on it. Blaze a new trail if you need to.
Be the one that others look to and silently say: “I wish I had the nerve to do what she did”. Because in the end, there’s regrets. Those feelings that we should have taken a leap — but didn’t.
Go for broke. Or better yet, go for abundance! The true abundance you’ve been craving, and don’t look back.
