Back in the day, I was very much in my head. But that’s how I HAD to be.
I was trained to analyze every nook and cranny, searching for anything that would be a red flag.
Why? Because it was my job to decide whether we should loan millions of dollars to various corporations, and if there was a miss-step, I was in deep doo doo.
We had both internal and external auditors that would go through our loan approvals with a fine-tooth comb. And you better believe, that you had to have all of your ducks in a row.
You had to turn over every rock, stone and pebble for clues as to whether the company was worthy of those millions.
That thinking served me in the job, but it didn’t serve me in my life.
Because in life, it’s not what’s in our head. It’s what’s in our heart.
No amount of “shoulds” will help us.
There’s no explaining. There’s no understanding. There’s no bullet points needed.
There’s no reason why we should do certain work, or should be with a certain person, or should live in a certain place.
Basically, we don’t need a “reason”. We need a FEELING.
It’s that intuitive side that guides us correctly in life. And for me, it took awhile to undo what I had learned.
Because along the way, I took some wrong turns in life. And after having stark realizations that I was going in the wrong direction (divorce, leaving a place and trying to come back to it, etc.) I had to…
GET OUT OF MY HEAD AND INTO MY HEART.
I learned to relax and go within. I learned to have others help me do it. And, I learned to help others do it too.
Through trial and error, I discovered the TRUTH.
And the truth is, to go within, get the intuitive answer to your next step, and stop questioning it. Stop analyzing.
Get out of analysis paralysis, because it may not make logical sense. It may not add up.
And don’t always expect others to understand your choices, because they may not think it adds up either.
Math doesn’t always work when it comes to the right decision for us.
So, stop adding and figure out what you might need to subtract. Either way, it’s all good.
Your life is unique to YOU, and ONLY YOU have the answer. You won’t find it anywhere else.
So, stop looking outside yourself. You’ve got this.
